We have exciting work by David Barrett (PhD student funded by the RoseTrees Trust) who has been working in my lab on preterm labour. Any guesses to what the colours represent? The amniotic membrane tissues were taken from women during premature labour and analysed with a clever technqiue that allows you to use a microscope without actually staining the cells or proteins. The method called Second Harmonic Generation (SHG) allows you to visualise the architecture and organisation of the tissues in real-time. Very cool!
